Our Story

Dear Friend,

We're so glad you're here.

Kaleidoscope Penguin Collective started as a shared dream between the two of us. We wanted to create the kind of place we were always looking for. A place where people could make something, learn something, meet interesting humans, and leave feeling a little more connected than when they arrived.

By day, Michael is a community business lawyer and the owner of Narwhal Law and Business Strategy, where he helps nonprofits, small businesses, and community organizations thrive. Andy is a Landscape Consultant and Co-Owner of Rose City Hoes, helping people connect with nature through thoughtful, sustainable landscapes. Our careers are different, but they're rooted in the same belief: communities become stronger when people have the support, tools, and spaces they need to grow.

Life hasn't always gone according to plan. Like everyone, we've had seasons that challenged us. Through it all, we've learned that creativity, laughter, and showing up for one another can make even the hardest days a little brighter.

When we're not working, you'll usually find us covered in paint, sawdust, or drywall dust while restoring our 1904 home one project at a time. It's taking longer than we'd like because, like so many people, we're balancing big dreams with everyday realities. Sometimes progress only happens after the bills are paid, and that's okay.

Family is a huge part of our lives. Between us, we have seven nephews and one niece, ranging in age from 4 to 24. Some of our favorite memories are sitting around the table coloring, making paper crafts, building imaginative creations, and watching the younger kids light up when they realize they made something all by themselves. Those moments remind us that creativity isn't about perfection. It's about curiosity, confidence, and spending meaningful time together.

We also believe that everyone deserves a place where they belong.

The world can feel busy, divided, and increasingly lived through screens. We think there is something special about gathering around a table, trying something new, laughing with strangers, sharing stories, learning from one another, and building real relationships. Those moments don't just happen. They're created, one conversation and one shared experience at a time.

That's why we built Kaleidoscope Penguin Collective.

This isn't just a place for crafts. It's a place for curiosity. It's a place to discover a new hobby, hear a fascinating speaker, play board games or trivia, taste a new wine, celebrate local artists, meet your neighbors, and maybe even find your people. We hope it's a place where friends become chosen family, where everyone feels welcome exactly as they are, and where you leave feeling a little lighter than when you walked in.

Thank you for spending your time with us and for being part of this community. We can't wait to meet you.

With love,

Michael & Andy
