Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kaleidoscope Penguin Collective?

Kaleidoscope Penguin Collective is a creative community where people come together to learn, play, create, and belong. Through workshops, classes, game nights, lectures, tastings, local art, and shared experiences, we make it easy to try something new, meet interesting people, and build community.

Why the heck did you call it "Kaleidoscope Penguin Collective?"

Fair question. The short answer? Because why not? The longer answer is that the name actually means a lot to us.

A kaleidoscope is made up of many different pieces that come together to create something beautiful. That's how we think about community. Every person brings different experiences, talents, perspectives, identities, and stories. Together, we create something richer than any one of us could alone.

As for penguins, yes, they're adorable. But they're also incredible examples of community. Penguins huddle together to stay warm, take turns protecting one another, share responsibilities, and work together to survive and thrive. We love that.

And "Collective" reflects who we hope to be: a community of curious humans creating, learning, laughing, and supporting one another. So yes, it's a little quirky. We think that's part of the fun.

Are all ages welcome?

Many of our events are open to all ages, while others are designed for adults or specific age groups. Any age recommendations or requirements will always be listed in the event description.

Do I need to register in advance?

We recommend registering in advance since many events have limited space. If room is available, some events may also accept walk-ins.

What should I bring?

Most workshops and events include everything you'll need. If you should bring anything special, we'll let you know in the event description.

I'm a beginner. Can I still participate?

Absolutely. Whether you're trying a new hobby, learning a new skill, or simply looking to meet new people, everyone is welcome. In fact, many of our events are designed with beginners in mind.

What kinds of events do you offer?

A little bit of everything. You might find arts and crafts, painting, gardening/plant projects, trivia, board games, wine or tea tastings, lectures, author talks, community conversations, karaoke, maker workshops, DIY projects, local artist pop-ups, wellness events, or something completely unexpected. If it helps people learn, play, create, or belong, we're probably interested.

Can I bring outside food?

Usually, yes. Outside food is welcome for most events unless otherwise noted. Some specialty events may include food or have different guidelines.

Can I bring outside drinks?

Outside nonalcoholic beverages are generally welcome. Outside alcohol is not permitted.

Do you sell food and drinks?

Yes! We offer a variety of snacks and beverages. Depending on the event and our licensing, we may also offer alcoholic beverages.

Do you have memberships?

Yes! Membership is a great way to become part of our community. Members receive exclusive perks, discounts, early access to select events, and other fun surprises throughout the year.

Do you sell gift cards?

Absolutely. Gift cards make a great gift for anyone who loves creativity, community, or trying something new.

Can I rent the space?

Yes! Our space is available for birthdays, celebrations, team-building events, meetings, workshops, showers, clubs, and other private gatherings. Visit our Rent the Space page to learn more.

Can I teach a class or host an event?

We'd love to hear your idea. We're always looking to partner with artists, makers, educators, performers, nonprofits, community groups, and people with interesting skills or experiences to share. Know that sometimes if it’s a no, it may be a just not right now.

Is the space accessible?

We work hard to make Kaleidoscope Penguin Collective welcoming to everyone. Our entrance includes an ADA-accessible ramp, our restroom is on the main floor, and we continually look for ways to improve accessibility. If you have accommodation requests or questions before visiting, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Is there parking nearby?

Yes. Street parking is available nearby, and we're also easy to reach by bike, public transit, or on foot.

Can I bring my pet?

We love animals, but only trained service animals are permitted inside the space.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancellation and refund policies vary depending on the event. Please review the event listing or contact us if you have questions.

How do I find out about upcoming events?

The best ways are to check our Classes & Events calendar, follow us on social media, or subscribe to our newsletter. That way you'll always know what's coming next.
